Updated statement from Suffolk Yacht Harbour (SYH) managing director Jonathan Dyke:
Yesterday, the Prime Minister announced the further easing of restrictions across England. Speaking to MPs, Boris Johnson said, “from 4th July, provided that no more than two households stay together, people will be free to stay overnight in self-contained accommodation.”
The latest guidance released by the government has confirmed boats fall under ‘hotels and other accommodation’ and as such overnight stays on boats are permitted from 4th July.
It is the welcome news we have all been waiting for. Boat owners now have the green light to cruise freely around coastal English waters and plan summer adventures on the water.
SYH welcomes any berth holders or visitors wishing to stay onboard at the marina and use the onsite facilities. The River Orwell and the surrounding areas are idyllic cruising grounds in which to enjoy this fantastic summer weather we are having.
The boatyard services and boat movement teams are continuing to work tirelessly to launch and ready vessels for summer cruising. Lead times for boatyard projects are continually being reduced and we welcome any new enquiries via the contact details at the bottom of this email.
Within the harbour, Covid-19 related measures remain in place to keep SYH staff and visitors safe. In light of the recent government announcement, we will be reviewing current processes and will update the existing SYH Covid-19 guidance appropriately in due course.
We are continuing to monitor government and industry guidelines with regards to racing, regattas and events; please keep an eye on the SYH website, and Facebook and Instagram pages for any updates.
Stay safe and we join you all in celebrating this significant next step out of lockdown.
All the best,
Jonathan
