As yachts are tucked away under covers and owners resign themselves to a winter season off the water, the SYH team is working harder than ever on seasonal maintenance across the site.
This year’s annual dredging of the marina began in November in the area by the Haven Ports Yacht Club lightship. The dredger will work its way around the marina, removing build-ups of mud where required ahead of next season. The SYH boat movements team is relocating boats to allow for the dredging and the berthing office will notify affected berth holders ahead of schedule.

Regular marina users may have noticed the pontoon emergency access beacon that has been installed on pontoon C. The beacons are designed to be positioned at emergency ladders to highlight the nearest pontoon access for anyone who falls into the water. The unit has a bright orange flag on the top and at night is illuminated by LED lighting for maximum visibility. Initial feedback from the trial of this first beacon has been positive and SYH is investigating installing additional beacons at key points throughout the marina.

New for this winter at SYH is an onsite facility for yacht owners looking to store equipment. Fully secure, the ten individual units are located in a gated compound at the entrance to the SYH site. Find out more here.
The winter months inevitably bring bad weather of varying degrees, but berth holders can rest assured their vessels will remain monitored to keep any damage to a minimum.
SYH boat movement manager Aaron Woolf commented, “The SYH boat moving team will be out in all conditions to ensure the positioning and security of lines and fenders (for boats in the water), and cradles and chocks (for those located ashore). The team will be onsite every day throughout the winter, except the Christmas and New Year bank holidays, and boats will be regularly checked to make sure they are as secure as possible. As always, if extreme conditions prevail during the holidays, SYH staff would be mobilised.”
