When our friends Spirit Yachts got in touch to say they needed a helping hand with some refit work, we were only to happy to assist. With the Spirit yard in Ipswich packed to the rafters with exciting new builds, SYH was called upon to refit Spirit 46’ Ilhabela.

The team in the SYH workshops resprayed Ilhabela’s topsides with Awlgrip to give that smooth, glassy finish Spirit Yachts is famous for. The deck fittings were all stripped off before the varnish was removed and Awlwood was applied. All the teak from the deck was routered off, before new teak decks were meticulously laid.

Other smaller jobs included refurbishing the iconic Spirit flush hatches, servicing the deck equipment and upgrading where needed, and fitting a new mast ring.

Spirit Yachts CEO and head designer Sean McMillan commented, “We are fortunate to have a busy yard full of new builds at the moment, so I was more than happy to entrust Ilhabela’s refit work to Suffolk Yacht Harbour. The team there is highly skilled and they have done a fantastic job.”

Jonathan Dyke added, “Spirit Yachts boasts some of the finest wooden boat builders and finishers in the world; we were honoured to work on one of their beautiful yachts.”
