SYH managing director Jonathan Dyke’s introduction to the spring 2019 issue of Harbour Light:
For the SYH team, spring requires high-energy and all hands to the pump. Winter dredging is finalised as the marina-shaped jigsaw is reassembled ready for the season ahead. New and recently maintained pontoons are busy receiving freshly-launched boats.
This winter, the long-awaited Seabin was installed in the east harbour and electric vehicle charging points were added to the end of the main office building. These two important eco-friendly additions form part of the long-term environmental investment at SYH. Read up on the details on page four.
Inside the workshop, boatyard services director Joshua Major oversees a hive of activity in the lead up to boat launching season. Long-standing renovation projects come together, and the team is filled with a sense of pride watching months of work come to fruition. A prime example of this is when Swan 43 Susquehanna emerged from the workshop after a three-year long refit; a fantastic moment for SYH and the yacht’s owner. Find out more on page seven.
In many ways, spring showcases the work carried out at SYH over the winter, but some things remain hidden from view. Over the winter months, during the wettest, windiest days, SYH’s boatyard team is outside moving boats, checking lines and realigning fenders. The team of four ensures all boats stored at the marina, particularly those in the water, are secure against the elements. They are the unsung heroes of SYH.
Team work runs throughout this issue of Harbour Light and in the forthcoming pages you will notice the collaborative projects between SYH and our onsite partners. From sail making to electronics and rigging, the 11 marine businesses onsite continue to help make SYH a veritable one-stop-shop of yachting facilities and services.
Looking ahead to this summer, entries are open for the 18th Classic Regatta; a highlight of the SYH calendar. Entries are already coming in for what looks set to be another fantastic weekend on the water. Find out more details and how to enter on page five.
I look forward to seeing you all around the marina and out on the water this season.
Best wishes,
Jonathan Dyke
