The east coast’s leading classic regatta will take place from 20th – 22nd June 2025
Suffolk Yacht Harbour (SYH), located on the River Orwell in Suffolk, has announced entries are open for its 23rd annual Classic Regatta. Taking place from 20th – 22nd June, the regatta is a popular season-opening event for classic and modern classic sail and motor yachts from across the UK.

Founded in 2002, the SYH Classic Regatta hosts a three-race series for Deben Cherubs, Stellas, Gaffers, classic and modern classic sailing yachts, and motor boats. There is also an optional Friday evening race for those looking for a “warm-up” race.
SYH Chairman Jonathan Dyke commented, “Our tried and tested programme of Corinthian-style racing and relaxed socialising continues to be popular. We prioritise quality and fun sailing, a welcoming atmosphere, and an opportunity for owners and crew to bring together these beautiful boats, all of which have a story to tell.”

Having been introduced to the event in 2021, the motor boat fleet is now making its mark. On Saturday afternoon, fast and traditional motor boats packed with pedigree and prowess will be showcased during the annual ‘parade of power’.
SYH Managing Director Joshua Major said, “The motor boat community is thriving and every year we welcome new faces to the event. It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet like-minded owners, share stories, and get your family and friends involved too.”

On-the-water action is complemented by socialising in the SYH marina and at Haven Ports Yacht Club onboard a restored LV87 lightship. Yachts are berthed together to create a festival-style atmosphere and encourage the shared appreciation of beautifully restored and maintained classic yachts.
Regatta guests have the choice of freshly cooked breakfasts, homemade café treats, and a variety of dinner options. A regatta party and live music on Saturday evening always delivers a great evening for all.

Joshua Major continued, “Suffolk Yacht Harbour has a long association with classic yachts, going back to Stella designer Kim Holman (one of the harbour’s original founding directors). With classic yacht maintenance facilities in the workshops and the Classic Marine chandlery onsite, SYH is well-equipped to assist classic yacht owners in the lead up to, during and after the regatta.”
Founded in 2002, the regatta is the largest event of its kind for classic yachts on the east coast and attracts a fleet of both local and visiting sailors from as far afield as the Channel Islands.
