Work on the new office building is continuing at an impressive rate, still right on schedule for autumn occupation. The new roofline is now clearly visible, and one of its features is a new radar scanner.

The Ipswich Port Authority’s scanner on top of the office building has been a familiar SYH landmark for some 30 years – but the new building boasts a brand new scanner.

And the promise is that it will be very much quieter than its predecessor.

“The other one was very noisy,” said SYH managing director Jonathan Dyke. “It ran on bronze bearings and was 30 years old.”

The replacement is a much more modern Kelvin Hughes scanner, with a 2.5 metre band antenna, which thanks to the latest technology is much quieter. There is also a mobile security camera on top of it.
