December in the workshop

There is plenty of work going on, with boats classic and modern, sail and motor-powered, in the workshops this month.

Antares

This Humber 40 motor yacht is having a complete superstructure respray. Decks, flybridge, radar support and all are being resprayed in white, while the non-slip area of the deck is being treated with blue Griptex. And very smart she looks.

Gudgeon

The graceful, extended stern is really starting to take shape now: the new transom has been fitted, and new planking has started to go in. “This is real boatbuilding,” said SYH managing director Jonathan Dyke, who believes passionately in the importance of keeping such traditional skills alive.

Tapornini

As well as varnishing cabin sides, cockpit and rubbing strake, the boatyard team have worked with Mr Stainless to fit a new stainless steel strip to the cabin top of this Nicholson 43.

Toccata

This classic yacht is back in the workshop for cockpit repairs, painting and varnishing.

Laura

A new stem is being put into this very pretty classic yacht after rot was found in the area.

Croix des Gardes

This classic French 45 footer is in the yard for extensive repair work. We will be replacing floors – the steel structures that tie the keel to the hull, removing and rebedding the keel, assessing and possibly replacing keel bolts. We will also remove, refurbish and refit the mast step, make repairs to bulwarks and stanchions, remove the rudder and stock and examine the horn timber and rudder areas.
