The sun is out and the sailing season has begun, which means the annual SYH Classic Regatta is nearly upon us. Taking place on 9th and 10th June, the weekend promises two days of varied racing and socialising: click here to download the entry form and read on for further details...
The largest classic yacht regatta on the east coast, the SYH Classic Regatta attracts a fleet of local and visiting sailors and welcomes everyone from keen racers to social sailors to compete in the fast, slow and Stella classes. Racing takes place across 9th-10th June in Dovercourt Bay, Harwich Harbour, and the Orwell and Stour estuaries.
As well as a dynamic programme of racing (click here for the full programme), the regatta offers plenty of opportunities to socialise with fellow classic enthusiasts. Friday night sees competitors gather for informal drinks in the Haven Ports Yacht Club Lightship and competitors are invited to purchase tickets to the popular Lightship party on Saturday evening, which includes food and a live band. Contact Jonathan Dyke on the details above to buy tickets and find out more.
A competitor from the last three years, Andy Easdown, commented on the event: “There is such a great atmosphere, everybody is so friendly. It’s fantastic to be among like-minded people and to see all the beautiful boats out on the water; there is really nothing quite like it.”
SYH managing director Jonathan Dyke comments, “As well as inviting classic sailors from across the UK to attend the regatta, we are very happy to welcome any spectators to the marina to watch the fleet of boats set off down the River Orwell. It really is quite a spectacle to see so many elegantly designed classic yachts all on the water at once.”
