Suffolk Yacht Harbour is fully committed to yacht refurbishment and provides specialist boat restoration and repair. Recently we carried out a full refit of a Sigma 33 “Magic Moments” for father and son owners, Andy and Pelham Etherington.
The owners of Magic Moments are well known to us as previous clients. They purchased their boat on the south coast and she was then delivered to us for her extensive refit. Magic Moments will be berthed at SYH and father and son Andy and Pelham Etherington plan to cruise and race the boat.
It was a fully comprehensive revamp which involved the refit and refurbishment of a multitude of elements. The chain plates were removed, repaired and replaced. Next was the rebuild of the heads, with new Formica faced ply and associated pipe work. The internal head and side linings had to be removed with new plywood back boards constructed, covered and updated.
Following on from this, the rudder was dropped into new Delrin bearings manufactured from tube cut to allow for an inbuilt auto-pilot motor and a Jeffa flexible gator was installed. Most importantly, a brand-new engine was installed. New deep-water cruising or racing electric bilge pumps were fitted and plumbed in, whilst seacocks were stripped down, serviced and replaced as necessary.
Within the interior we connected a new cooker ensuring the pipe work met with all gas safety certifications. The entire galley was refurbished with new Formica tops together with the replacement of the 12V switch panel and associated wiring. The front bunk required the replacement of all its interior joinery, with much of the remaining joinery being refurbished, refreshed and modified to the owners’ exact specification.
Topside involved essential gel repairs to the superstructure. The pulpit and pushpin had to be removed for specialist modification before being refitted. The windows had to be custom-made and all hatches replaced to ensure they were watertight.
Owner's comment: " We were really impressed with how helpful and supportive Suffolk Yacht Harbour have been, who were full of sound, solid and practical advice. They made a potentially difficult and stressful project most enjoyable!”
